Beautiful sight.

With nothing much to say this is the fire finally in its place. In fact it looks beautiful, come and see fore yourself.

What a sight.

Come Sunday afternoon the top was on and it looked great. I managed to cut my hands in 8 different places during this excercise. But I guess it was worth it after all. The chimney was finished and I was only hoping that all would be good once lit. Fingers crossed......

I do have 2 hand even if I dont have a head.

Maria had put her efforts into building the chimney top.... What a fine job she did..

I'm too old for this.

My back couldnt take this any longer. After pulling a muscle the day before whilst putting Bengts boat back in the water I found myseld carring several parts of the chimney to the top of the roof.

I once thought this would be as simple as putting several tubes together but how wrong was I. Seals, clamps, smoke goes up!!, condensation goes down.......Sunday was a real head ache especially with a hung over woman helping me.....but she did me proud.

Incedently ask her about the awakening at 5.50am " Its in the wine"! Totally pissed and out of her head. Maria cannot handle her drink any more.

Fingers on the roof

After a taaxing night out with the girls (ASK MARIA!) Sunday saw a challenge that I have never taken on before. Fitting a chimney into a tin can. Taking away the tiles was an arse but revealed the roof which needed an hole in it.

A fun few days.

Friday and Saturday saw an interesting 2 days. I spent my time finishing the undwercoats on the windows and putting the panels on the walls and ceilings.

However, the ceiling couldnt be finsihed until the fire was set in place...........and the fire couldnt be set in place without the floor being laid. But the floor couldnt be laid until the ceiling was finished.

A bit of a struggle.....but Maria came up with the idea of fitting some of the floor and then covering it.

Here you can see the fire with the first section of the chimney...

Watch the birdie!! Or not!

Friday on the island started off with a bit of a shock. The cat the never liked to go out had finally found its balls....which comes to a little surprise when they should be in the vets, taken off him 3 years ago.

Mufasa had taken to going out and found that catching starlings in mid air was quite exciting. Not a fun sport I have to add.. Especially when we were living on a Nature Reserve... SAD!

Guess this ones pushing up the flowers now..

A sad day.

Today Maria and I got up and started another day in the house. Maria set about painting the door and some more windows and I finished the panelling of the walls. Tomorrow we should set about the ceilings and hopefully starting to fit the chimney.....:-)

Last thing at night

Having had a disapointing day at work I decided to go back out after dinner and continue with the panelling. Here you can see the front is now done and ready for finishing touches.

A good start to Wednesday

After a trip to IKEA and to pick up the chimney we set off back to the island again on Wednesday. Having got there late we only had time for a little work before the tiredness set in. Half the house was now panelled and was starting to look great.

The bedroom

With the bedroom almost complete with the panel I guess now I need to clear out the house and start the rest. Sadly this wont be until Wednesday as we are off south tomorrow to pick up the chimney and the last visit to IKEA. A shower is on the cards and maybe a real toilet.

The inside

Monday a great day..Today I started to put the panel up inside the house. All is now complete with only the nice things left. The bedroom is the first place where I started. The white walls really makes the place looking good.

The old window.

Today Maria started to paint the undercoat onto the windows. As you can see here the old window has now got the metal surrounds on.

Remove your mess

Monday morning arrived and Bengt decided to take Dexta out with the trailor and start removing the bushes that they had been cutting down. These once together will be burnt in the winter.

The back of the house

By the end of Sunday the metal work was finally finished. Apart from a few mishaps all was complete and now ready for painting.

Mind the Gap

A patch work quilt comes to mind.

There are times!!!

Well what can I say. Sunday came around and I needed Maria to help me cover the old rear door. What I will tell you next will come to no surprise to those out there that know Maria. However, I believe in her, trust her and have every confindence in her........NOT ANY MORE>!

With 2 sheets of metal left we had the door to cover. This would include measuring the space and cutting the steel. Tape measure in hand Maria and I measured the space and noted the figure. I then held the tape on the steel and Maria marked several lines on the steel before then getting a level and drawing a straight line for me to cut.

Once cut it was time to fit it.........SHIT! This photo shows the shame on her face. Its a pity we didnt video this clip as it would have made amazing viewing and probably would made it onto YOU TUBE. Unbelievable........

Bad hair day

The beer was flowing and the sun was shining. This has made coming to Sweden worth while. We learnt today that this summer is not all about work, its also about relaxing and enjoying this time. Bring on next Saturday!

Beers up

What a great setting. You wouldn't believe this place, It's beautiful and the beers not bad either. Thanks JC and Anja.

Tools down.

Saturday was an amazing day. We started by applying more panels to the outside of the house around the existing window and a few holes here and there. Then we were visited by JC and Anja from a neighbouring Island. What a nice suprise.

Low and behold we were told of a bar that was opening that day and every Saturday evening on an island close by.......

Stop everything. The sun was shining and we had already worked up a thurst. Map out and off we went to find this new watering hole.

Our Front

Firstly I must apologise for not updating this sooner. Slight problem with Swedish adaptors.....Here you can see finally the front of our new summer home. Yes Toby, id does need painting, the door will have a window, the side windows will have glass and the top window will be surrounded by white borders.......Only joking. Still quite a lot to do but its good that we finally put the metal sheets on.

The front inner

Finally for Friday you see the new front door that Maria and her mom Ingrid baught yesterday. Guess I have the lovly job of cutting a whole in this and making yet another lovly window. As you can see from this the two new windows will add some light but due to spacing cant be too wide.

At the end of the day

By the end of Friday all the interior walls had been constructed and I managed to have a clear out of the house. Things are starting to take shape now in the house and soon we will be ready to take the cover off the front and show it to everyone. The only reason I havnt done this yet is due to weather proofing.

As you will also see we managed to remove the old ventalation fan from the ceiling and blok off the old generator opening. I'll give it a week and we will be in there.
